Tilak Fiberglass Mridangas

We're introducing the new Tilak Mridanga. It comes in Black, White, Red, Yellow, and Blue, and features both small and large style. Each Mridanga is made from hardwearing fiberglass and is built to last. On the body of each is the famous "Tilak" symbol that distinguishes the Vaishnava. The tuning key fits comfortably in a velcro sealed pouch in the strap. These are like the famous "Balarama" Mridangas, only new, improved, and a portion of the price.

For those who don't know what a "Balarama Mridanga" is, it's a fiberglass and rubber version of the Bengali mridanga used in ISKCON temples worldwide. It really is a great idea. The sound is very similar to the clay mridanga (but louder), and they are nearly indestructible.

After years of research and development a new fibreglass Mridanga has been produced to replace the now unavailable famous Balarama fibreglass mridanga.

The Balarama mrdanga was first produced at New Dwarka, ISKCON Los Angeles to solve a big problem with the clay mrdangas from India. The clay mridangas are very fragile. A slight impact will cause them to break. To avoid this problem the fibreglass "Balarama Mrdanga" was invented. It was a grand success and now the new and improved Balarama Mrdanga in the form of the Tilak Mridanga is now available at almost half the price of what the Balarama mrdanga was priced at.

The Balarama Mrdanga was priced at around $300. By improving the production methods we have been able to both improve the quality of the mrdangas significantly and at the same time to very dramatically reduce the price.
