Poppy Seed cake.
Ingredients.
4 ounces poppy seeds
2 cups buttermilk
2 cups butter
3 cups sugar
8 teaspoons yogourt
5 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons almond extract
4 teaspoons baking powder
Preparation.
Soak poppy seeds in buttermilk for 2 hours. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add yogourt and beat well. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and baking powder. Add almond extract. Pour a fourth of the batter in a 13 x 9 inch loaf pan . Mix 1 cup sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon, sprinkle a fourth of this in each loaf pan. Add remaining batter, then sprinkle the remaining sugar mixture. Bake at 350ºF for 1 hour.
